Happy New Year

Hello everyone!  Today is the Lunar New Year and the Chinese Year of the Horse. The horse is part of a 12-year-cycle of animals that make up the Chinese zodiac. These interact with the five elements: wood, metal, fire, water, earth. 2014 is the year of the wood horse, taking over from the year of the water snake.

Here is a card I made using the Pop It Ups Oval Accordion card die to celebrate the occassion. I have also used the Kimono die from Elizabeth Craft Designs. I cut one layer using gold foil paper and the solid image using cardstock covered with double sided adhesive.  After applying the outline, I used Red Silk Microfine glitter. The paper used is the Graphic 45 Birdsong Collection. I have accented the lantern is red/gold glitter dots.

Here is the card opened up. I made the red envelope using my We R Memory keepers envelope punch board. Red envelopes are gifts presented at social and family gatherings such as weddings or on holidays such as the Chinese New Year. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits.
